WARMACHINE - and yes, the name is supposed to be all in caps - is a table top miniatures war game made by Privateer Press. With anywhere from half a dozen to maybe 40 models in a typical game, this is primarily a skirmish-level game. You can also have more models in a game if you wish. At the center of the game is the Warcaster, a powerful leader who can empower and manipulate the hulking Warjack steam-punk mecha. Helping out the core battlegroup is a hugely diverse group of troops. These include anything from disciplined riflemen to undead pirates and even fire bomb chucking zealots.

The Rules

Game rules are well-written to be very clear and concise. Most of the rules you need are in the main rulebook, called Prime: Remix. Models also come with stat cards that give a rundown on all of their special rules and how they work. That makes it easy to keep tabs on all your (and your opponent’s) cool tricks mid-battle. Privateer Press also has avoided putting out one edition after another. It’s makes the game easy on the wallet since you aren’t forced to buy and re-buy a half-dozen rulebooks every few years. New books are released annually, and since they have a little something for every faction, you’ll also never be left in the cold for years waiting and hoping for an army update.

Gameplay

Gameplay itself is very fast-paced and in-your-face, and definitely favors the aggressor. Since you don’t wind up with two sides facing off too scared to make a move all game, this fact makes the game much more interesting. Due to the sequential unit activation setup of the game, this allows you to execute a myriad display of nasty combos to bring ULTIMATE PAIN to your unfortunate foes. It’s okay though, because your opponent came do the same to you. That keeps each battle fresh and exciting. Victory can be, and often is, snatched from the jaws of defeat should the apparent victor leave an opening for the beleaguered underdog.

Also, the focus on the game is a lot less on list-building and more on mid-battle tactics. Each model’s abilities are set in stone, leaving list construction to be simply putting the building blocks together. Don’t take that to mean it’s simplistic though, as you need to account for each unit’s special abilities and how they’ll work with the rest of the army on the field. Even changing nothing more then the single warcaster model you have leading the army can change it’s entire dynamic, making it a simple matter to liven up your game with something new.

Hobby-wise you don’t see as much model conversion as in a lot of other games, mostly because anything you might need a model for either already has one, or will have one released within the year. Painting is big. There are lots of pro tips in the various source books. And of course, terrain building is ever present as it is in any table top miniatures war game.

The government standard for the oxygen test is 10, but high-quality bedding usually has a lower number. Turbidity is measured in the opposite direction - that is, a higher number is better. The top of the turbidity scale is somewhere around 550.

Now you need to drill your stones in order to string them together.  Many tools are available for this - the miniature drills used by model makers are the most obvious. Line your beads up before drilling them so that you know exactly where to drill and again take care. Having invested all the time and effort into polishing your stones, you do not want to break or scratch them at this stage.

Stringing your beads is the next step. The best thing to use for this is jewellers thread, although other threads may be used. Be careful, though, sewing cotton and the like will be too soft and will break and fishing line is to hard and may cut its way through your beads - and your neck if you are not careful. Ensure that you have the beads ordered as you want them before tying the thread. You can thread the beads a number of times before tying the knot, but once that knot is finished it will be difficult to change without starting over with a new piece of thread.

With some creativity and time it is possible to make some truly unusual articles of jewellery. I know somebody who pierced orange pips to make a necklace - it looks great. Try carving and polishing small pieces of coal, it looks just like jet, with little or no cost. It may not last long, but jewellery like this is not meant to last forever.

Keeping scissors and shears in a safe place like a sewing basket, or with higher quality cutting instruments, the box they came in, will help protect the points. Also, scissors and shears should be stored in a closed position. The most common cause of dull blades is setting down scissors or shears in the open position.

POPULATION EXPLOSION

THE COLLEGE SOCIAL GATHERING

The college day is the day when the annual social gathering of the college is held. It is the most eagerly awaited day during an academic year as it is a day of fun and laughter for the students. It also provides them with an opportunity to show their talent.

In my college, third of January was announced to be the college day. The college began to hum with activities since the day of the announcement. The function was held in the town hall. The hall was decorated with colourful flags and festoons. It wore a festive look.

The programme was to start at six in the evening. Boys and girls in colorful costumes were seen moving about with smiles on their faces. Parents and guardians were present in large numbers to watch the programmes.

The mayor was the chief guest. He arrived at five minutes to six. He was garlanded at the entrance and greeted by the Principal and the staff. Then he was escorted to his seat.

The programme started with a prayer by a group of Junior College girls. It was followed by a Marathi play. It was comic. It was followed by a folk-song. A final year student presented Hamlet’s Soliloquy.

The programme was interrupted for a while for the official function. The Principal welcomed the chief guest and gave a brief account of the various activities of the college. Then the mayor gave away the prizes. The students clapped and cheered each prize-winner as he or she went to the dais, shook hands with the mayor and received the prize. The prize distribution ceremony was followed by the mayor’s speech. The mayor congratulated the prize-winners and praised the Principal and the staff for the excellent performance of the students. Then the student general secretary thanked the chief guest and the parents.

Students had become restless by now and catcalls were heard. But silence was restored as soon as the programme was resumed. A play in Hindi was followed by agarba dance. Then a senior student presented an item of mimicry. The audience roared with laughter. It was on this happy note that the programme ended.

The programme was over at ten. Our hearts were full pf joy as we left the hall. The jubilant mood of the day lingered for days together.
